Decemberist Hearts Steven Page

Former Barenaked Ladies singer/guitarist Steven Page has won Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy's Twitter songwriting contest.

On Friday, Meloy asked his Twitter followers to "Write a song and youtube yourself playing it and I'll post the best one here. Topic: Linda Ronstadt."

Page entered the contest on Sunday, and Meloy announced the winners on Monday. Page tied with former Spinanes singer/guitarist Rebecca Gates. Page's song is called "Linda Ronstadt In The Seventies."

"It was fun to have a challenge to write a song like this, with no real expectations," Page wrote on his blog on Monday. "I'm been up to my ears in writing and orchestrating some faux-Jacobean music for Stratford's production of Bartholmew Fair, so it was a nice treat to write something that comes a little more naturally like this. Being a Ronstadian scholar and all, you know."
