Breeders Cover Bob Marley

The Breeders

The Breeders will release Fate To Fatal, a four-song EP, on April 21.

The news comes on the heels of more concerts for The Pixies later this year. According to a press release, the band are releasing the EP themselves and through their website, at shows and through "traditional record stores and other online outlets."

The effort was recorded in England and in singer/guitarist Kim Deal's basement where "we've discovered the treble knob."

Deal says the band worked with producer Gareth Parton (The Go! Team, The Pipettes) on Fade To Fatal, beginning with the title track.

"At the beginning, Gareth and I were really snitty towards each other, which can turn out bad or good," Deal says. "And it turned out really good."

Other songs include "The Last Time" which features Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Gutter Twins), "Pinnacle Hollow" and a cover of Bob Marley And The Wailers' "Chances Are," which was recorded with producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies). A video for the title track will also include rollerderby girls in the video.

The EP will also come with interesting album art by Chris Glass, the man responsible for the logo President Barack Obama used for the "American Recovery And Reinvestment Act."

"We're getting some fancy paper for 12-inch sleeves, and Kelley [Deal, bassist/singer] and I are going to personally handscreen the artwork at Chris' studio, Wire & Twine, in Ohio."

The band are curating this year's "All Tomorrow's Parties" festival May 15-17 in Minehead, England. The lineup features Gang Of Four, Bon Iver, Foals, X, J-Zone and Heartless Bastards, among others.

Bassist Mando Lopez is also filming the group for a forthcoming documentary.
