Nelly Furtado has launched her own record label, Nelstar Music, and her first signing is Toronto's Fritz Helder & The Phantoms.
The electro-pop band's Greatest Hits album will be released through Nelstar on July 7. You can hear the first single, "Lagerfeld Lady," and watch its accompanying video on the band's MySpace page.
"I've been thinking about a way to help Fritz Helder for a while and this venture grew out of my love for the band, their art and their work ethic," Furtado says. "I am as committed as they are to bringing their creativity to the world."
Fritz Helder & The Phantoms include Fritz Helder (vocals, key-tar), Silk Helder (guitar, synthesizer), Pastel Supernova (vocals) and Diego Superstar (vocals, synthesizer, beats). They've toured with Lady Gaga, Dragonette and Semi Precious Weapons.
Nelstar Music will be distributed by Last Gang Labels, the distribution arm of Last Gang Records, which is home to Metric, Mother Mother, Chromeo and others.
You can see Fritz Helder & The Phantoms close Toronto's Fashion Week at Top Of The Burroughes on March 21. Tickets are $25 through automatt.net.
