The Lovely Feathers announced on their MySpace blog on Feb. 23, 2007 that their new album was nearing completion.
Another blog entry titled "shit its been a while" appeared nine months later. Their latest post, dated March 5, 2009, is titled "WERE BACK FOR REAL." According to singer/guitarist Mark Kupfert, they mean it this time.
"Having the past two years to regroup, we're basically ready to fuck it up again," he says.
"We came back [from our last tour] and everyone was really frustrated and in a bad place... so we fucked up a lot of relationships back home. I think we just wanted time to regroup. It wasn't the music. The vibe and the atmosphere were gone, and we knew that."
Some of the Montreal band's members went back to school, while others got jobs. Though their lives were diverging, they still managed to find time to get together and jam. Scherezadian, the album that resulted from that determination, should see the light of day this spring.
"With this album, some of the songs were done right after we finished touring two years ago, and some of the songs were done more recently," says Kupfert. "It's an interesting dichotomy.
"I think we're trying to be a little less ironic. There's still a quirk, I guess. Hind Hind Legs was a strange album. It covered a lot of sounds. This album does the same. It's still all over the place."
The Lovely Feathers plan to hit the road for a tour at some point this year. For now, you can catch them at the Horseshoe Tavern on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. as part of the annual CHARTattack/Horseshoe/Canadian Music Week showcase.
