Randy Bachman, Emmylou Harris, Sarah Slean, Steven Page, Jason Collett, Cowboy Junkies, Carole Pope and Danny Michel are among those slated to perform at June's Luminato arts festival in Toronto.
Bachman will launch the 10-day event with a free outdoor show at Yonge-Dundas Square on June 5. Harris will play a gig with Patti Griffin, Shawn Colvin and jazz guitarist Buddy Miller at Massey Hall the same night. Tickets for the show will cost from $59.50 to $79.50 and go on sale April 16.
Massey Hall will also host The Canadian Songbook: A Tribute To Neil Young's Live At Massey Hall, which will attempt to recreate Neil Young's classic 1971 concert at the venue, on June 10. The concert was released on CD
Slean, Page, Collett, Cowboy Junkies, Carole Pope, Holly Cole, Michel, the Bill Frisell Trio, Issa (formerly Jane Siberry), Stevie Jackson, Colin Linden, Harry Manx and Roxanne Potvin will be among those who'll perform the 18 songs Young played at the venue in 1971.
Young has been invited to the show, but he'll be touring Europe at the time. Tickets go on sale April 16 through Ticketmaster and are priced at $59.50 to $79.50.
The festival will be used to attempt to break the world record for largest guitar ensemble with a guitar jam at Dundas Square on June 6. Organizers intend to get as many guitarists as they can to play Canadian songs and break the German record of 1,802 guitarists playing in a single session.
Addicted To Bad Ideas: Peter Lorre's 20th Century, a punk rock opera and multimedia theatre event featuring World/Inferno Friendship Society, will be held at the Phoenix Concert Theatre on June 13. Tickets are $35.
There will also be a free all-day concert featuring the Derek Trucks Band, Jerry Douglas and Daniel Lanois at Yonge-Dundas Square on June 7.
More information about Luminato can be found through the festival's website.
