Animal Collective #1 For Sixth Week

Gentleman Reg's Jet Black

A.C. Newman's Get Guilty made a concerted advance on the #1 album, Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion, on last week's national campus radio chart.

Newman's album came within less than 100 points of grabbing the top spot, but fell behind by more than 300 points this week, giving Merriweather Post Pavilion a comfortable advantage as it holds on to the #1 position for a sixth week. Malajube's Labyrinthes keeps the #3 spot and is followed by a couple of new albums hoping to break up the love-in between the three aforementioned records.

M. Ward's Hold Time jumps 14 spots to #4, while DD/MM/YYYY's Black Square rises that same amount to land at #5. The Hylozoists' L'Ile De Sept Villes falls two positions to #6 and is followed by this week's Chart Sizzler Award winner, Gentleman Reg's Jet Black, which debuts at #7. The Bicycles' Oh No, It's Love, a former #1 album, holds onto #8. Faunts' Feel.Love.Thinking.Of. falls four places to #9. The biggest upward move belongs to Bell Orchestre's As Seen Through Windows, which rises 29 places to #10.

There was really no competition for Gentleman Reg in the highest debut race. The War Child Presents Heroes compilation was the second highest new entry at #20. Asobi Seksu's Hush arrived at #25 and Bon Iver's Blood Bank EP debuted at #38.

Perrenial chart fave Julie Doiron sees her new album, I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day, entering at #40. It could be the next challenger for #1 in a couple of weeks. Another possible future chart champion is Neko Case's Middle Cyclone, which fails to chart for a second week since receiving a smattering of airplay across the country.

The specialty charts showed significant changes this week. Three of the four witnessed albums moving up from #2 last week to grab the top spot: Rokia Traore's Tchamantche on the World/Folk; Tombs' Winter Hours on Metal/Punk; and Mr. Scruff's Ninja Tuna on Electronic.

Alexis Baro's From The Other Side rose two places to take the lead on the Jazz/Blues chart, while Dragon Fli Empire's Redefine held off all contenders to remain at #1 on the Hip-Hop top 10.

Buried Inside's Spoils Of Failure is the top debut on the Metal/Punk chart at #3, giving Relapse Records the top three positions on that countdown. Other high debuts include the remix of Delhi 2 Dublin's debut album, which enters the World/Folk top 10 at #4 and K'Naan's Troubadour, which debuts at #5 on the Hip-Hop chart.
