A biopic about '80s rap group N.W.A. is reportedly in the works.
Straight Outta Compton is currently in development, according to Entertainment Weekly's website. Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Tomica Wright, CEO of Ruthless Records and the widow of N.W.A.'s Eazy-E, are producing the film and looking for a director.
N.W.A., an acronym for "Niggaz With Attitude," formed in 1986 and included Dre, Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella. Their sophomore effort, Straight Outta Compton, came out in 1988, and they soon became notorious for controversial songs like "Fuck Tha Police" and albums like AmericaKKKa's Most Wanted. N.W.A. went through an acrimonious break-up following 1991's Niggaz4life.
All of N.W.A.'s members went on to have successful solo careers, but Eazy-E died of AIDS in 1995. Bad feelings between Dre, Cube and MC Ren ceased and the three later appeared on each others' albums.
