Former Staggered Crossing frontman Julian Taylor will issue his Blank Tape Levy solo debut at a CD release party with Soulstack and Shoot The Cameraman at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on March 19.
The album would have come out a lot earlier, but the first version was stolen in late 2007 after hooligans broke into the studio where it was being recorded. They made away with as much gear as they could, including the hard drives that contained the album's only original master recordings. Taylor and producer Ed Zych (Stars) were forced to re-record the LP from scratch, and Blank Tape Levy was finally completed on Feb 4.
Blank Tape Levy is also available through maplemusic.com and zunior.com if you can't make it to the show. You can also hear the album here.
Staggered Crossing were signed to Warner Music Canada when Taylor was 19, and the group scored three Canadian top 30 rock radio hits from their three albums before they broke up in 2007.
Taylor founded Toronto's Bent Penny Records, a multi-faceted music promotion company and record label, in 2004. He's written songs with Valerie Gore, Robert Priest and Phat Al, and hosts a weekly open jam night at Toronto's Dorah Keogh Irish Pub.
Here are the songs on Blank Tape Levy:
"Never Spoiled By Love"
"What Would You Have Me Do"
"It's Not Enough"
"Roll Away The Tears"
"Blind"
"Emily"
"Aerosol"
"Better Days"
"Catching Up On Sleep"
"Blind" (acoustic)
"What Would You Have Me Do"
"Somewhere In The Middle"
