The Video Dead — the punk quintet including Saint Alvia's Greg Fisher, Matt Richmond and Fistin' Ben Rispin, as well as Matt Barnhart and Jesse King — are almost done writing a new album titled Damn Disco.
The album title came from actor and Second City alumnus Eugene Levy (American Pie) at the Hamilton Music Awards a couple of years ago, according to this recent Saint Alvia MySpace blog entry:
"We had just recieved an award for best heavy/metal album of the year and he had presented his Uncle with a lifetime achievement award for promoting live music in the Hamilton area throughout the '50s and '60s. His uncle's business then suffered in the '70s when all the nightspots started playing disco tapes/records and live music went out the door.
"Mr Levy then leaned over and said 'Damn Disco,' now thats a good name for a band. We figured it would make just as good a name for an era of a band.
Hope you like!"
The Video Dead have posted demos recorded by Saint Alvia tour manager Donny Cooper on their MySpace page.
The Video Dead, Junior Battles and Fog Of Leprosy will play Toronto's Bovine Sex Club on Friday.
Saint Alvia recently finished this video for "Walk Before You Run-DMC" that was shot by director Davin Black while they were in Tokyo, Japan in November:
Saint Alvia have signed a European deal with Gunner Records, which will release the band's self-titled album on April 10. Saint Alvia will support it with a European tour from Sept. 24 to Oct. 17. Those concert details haven't been announced, but these have:
