Beastie Boys Album Takes New Direction

Beastie Boys

The new Beastie Boys album could be called Tadlock's Glasses.

The title is a reference to the Beastie Boys' former bus driver, who once received a pair of glasses from Elvis Presley.

Adam "MCA" Yauch also said he and bandmates Adam "Ad Rock" Horovitz and Mike "Mike D" Diamond were taking a new direction on the upcoming album, which will be their eighth studio release.

"It's a combination of playing and sampling stuff as we're playing, and also sampling pretty obscure records," Yauch told BBC 5 Live at the Independent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles.

"There are a lot of songs on the record and there are a lot of short songs and they kind of all run into each other."

The Beastie Boys are polishing up the album, and no release date has been set.

"We're tweaking some mixes and we're going to master it in the next couple of weeks," Yauch says.

The Beastie Boys have said they'll tour this summer in support of the disc, but only one date — a headlining spot at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn. on June 12 — has been announced.

The last Beastie Boys album was 2007's instrumental The Mix-Up. They recently reissued Paul's Boutique to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
