A Spider-Man musical with music and lyrics written by U2's Bono and The Edge will make its Broadway debut in 2010.

Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, which will be directed by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King) and written by Glen Berger, will open at New York's Hilton Theater on Feb. 18. Previews will begin on Jan. 16. The play will be produced by Hello Entertainment, David Garfinkle, Martin McCallum, Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

"Spider-Man's battles will hurtle the audience through an original story both recognizable and unexpected — yielding new characters as well as familiar faces — until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero's journey," the producers said in a media statement.

Jim Sturgess (Across The Universe) and Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler) are rumoured to appear in the $40-million musical, but casting hasn't been completed. Wood has said she'll play the role of Mary Jane Watson, according to the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

U2's 12th studio album, No Line On The Horizon, will be released on March 3.
