Alexisonfire have started recording their fourth album, Young Cardinals, and you can follow their progress on their new studio blog.
This marks the first time Alexisonfire will "document the making of a record from head to toe," according to a post that the band wrote on Thursday.
Young Cardinals, which doesn't yet have a release date, is being recorded live off the floor by engineer Nick Blagona (April Wine, Cat Stevens), who Alexisonfire worked with on 2006's Crisis, according to a post written on Sunday by guitarist/vocalist Wade MacNeil. Guitarist/singer Dallas Green is using a "really old Fender Bassman Combo amp," while MacNeil says he's been using "a bunch of 1950's Gibsons" on the record.
The studio sessions have led vocalist George Pettit to concede that "i have no idea what any of these knobs do, i'll just leave that up to the professionals." That's a good thing, since he recently wrote that the band had "7 songs in the can probably 8 by the time we finish up" at the end of their third day in the studio.
"i think when the dust settles on a year of ideas put to hard drive, we just might have made something worthwhile. but you get to be the judge of that."
You may be able to hear some of Young Cardinals' songs when Alexisonfire play Edgefest on June 20 at Toronto's Downsview Park.
The band also posted this video of bassist Chris Steele having an accident with a bike on Thursday:
