Blink-182 singer/bassist Mark Hoppus may produce Sum 41's upcoming fifth album.
A fan asked on Sum 41's website on Friday if Hoppus would produce their next album. Frontman Deryck Whibley replied on Tuesday by saying, "yes, i think?"
The fan asked another question on Wednesday to get further clarification on whether Hoppus would also sing on Sum 41's next single.
"i don't know where all this came from but it's just a rumour," Whibley replied.
Whibley, bassist Cone McCaslin and drummer Steve Jocz began recording an EP in December, but Whibley said last month that things were going so well that they'd record a full-length album instead, whether Hoppus produces it or not.
"there was talk about doing an ep and then that turned into other things," Whibley wrote on the band's website on Sunday. "next thing you know we're sitting here with a whole bunch of songs that we really like.
"so instead of doing anything else we've just decided to go and make a full album. as to when it will come out, i don't know. i would say it's safe to say it will be out this year. unless for some reason we need to keep going and it pushes it back further. but right now everything is on track and feels good."
Whibley has also launched his own MySpace page where he'll post his thoughts, ramblings and, possibly, new songs.
Sum 41's last studio album was 2007's Underclass Hero. They'll release a hits collection titled Sum 41 — All The Good Shit on March 17.
