Chris Brown Is "Sorry And Saddened"

Chris Brown has spoken for the first time about his alleged attack on Rihanna before the Grammy Awards.

The R&B star, who's been charged with making criminal threats on a woman who's widely believed to be the "Umbrella" hitmaker, released a statement on Monday with the help of a PR company specializing in crisis management.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," Brown said. "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

Brown also commented on reports that he'd posted on his Facebook page about the incident last week. He allegedly wrote: "You'll begin to see her true colors! Believe it!" on the page after the incident.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," Brown said in the statement he released on Sunday.

"While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

Brown turned himself in to police on the morning of Feb. 8 after police were called to the scene of an alleged altercation that occurred between the singer and a woman in his rented Lamborghini after Clive Davis' pre-Grammys party on Feb. 7.

Brown is said to have assaulted the woman, and it's been reported she was left with contusions on both sides of her head, a bloody nose, split lip and bite marks on her arms. There have also been reports that he choked her unconscious.

Rihanna hasn't been officially confirmed as the victim since a California law prevents victims of domestic abuse from being identified.

Brown has been in hiding since the incident, but reportedly saw his mother last week.

Brown's father, who ironically happens to be a corrections officer, spoke to People.com on Friday about the incident.

"He's reflecting on this situation," said Clinton Brown. "He's very remorseful. He's very concerned about the situation and he wants to make sure that [Rihanna's] okay.

"This is unfortuante, this stumble, this situation. Hopefully, he will get past it. We all have our shortcomings. We all trip."

Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, also spoke to People.com about the alleged attack on his daughter on Saturday.

"I didn't believe it," he said.

"I know my daughter. You think you know somebody, but you really don't."

Fenty added that his daughter is staying with friends at the moment and, though she's bruised from the incident, "She will be all right. I think so.

"At some point, she will speak out. I hope she will stand up for women all over the world."
