Sonic Youth Reveal New Album Details

Sonic Youth will release The Eternal on June 9 via their new label, Matador Records.
Vocalist/guitarist Thurston Moore told Uncut magazine that the band's 16th album was "a record replete with juicy supersonic songs." It will be released on CD, double vinyl and as a download.
Sonic Youth recorded The Eternal in November and December at Echo Canyon West studio in Hoboken, N.J. and co-produced it with John Agnello (The Hold Steady, Dinosaur Jr.), who produced the band's last studio effort, 2006's Rather Ripped.
The Eternal apparently features more shared vocals between Moore, bassist/guitarist/vocalist Kim Gordon and guitarist/vocalist Lee Ranaldo. It marks the studio debut of touring member and former Pavement bassist Mark Ibold. The band are completed by drummer Steve Shelley.
Sonic Youth have been pretty diligent about updating fans on the album's progress via their Twitter account. Agnello said The Eternal was mastered in a Jan. 30 message.
If June seems too far away to buy new Sonic Youth material, you can pick up a couple of singles on Record Store Day. Matador will release a seven-inch of Sonic Youth covering Beck's "Pay No Mind" and Beck interpreting Sonic Youth's "Green Light," as well as a single with Sonic Youth's "No Garage" and Jay Reatard's "Hang Them All," on April 18.
Gordon's Mirror/Dash clothing line, which she designed in collaboration with Jeffrey Monteiro and Melinda Wansbrough, will be made exclusively available at Urban Outfitters on Feb. 16.
