ECMA Hosts And Performers Set

Newfoundland singer/songwriter Damhnait Doyle and radio and television broadcaster, singer, musician, artist manager, writer and producer Jian Ghomeshi will host the East Coast Music Awards show in Corner Brook, Nfld. on March 1.

Hey Rosetta!, Jill Barber, Tara Oram, Christina Martin, Meaghan Blanchard, Radio Radio, MIR, David Myles, Ryan LeBlanc, Troy MacGillivray and a reunited Rawlins Cross will perform on the 21st annual show.

Artists from Newfoundland’s traditional and country music scenes will perform in a tribute to Dick Nolan, the 2009 recipient of the Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award. Nolan was originally from Corner Brook, and was a pioneer of the province’s music industry.

The program will be broadcast live from Corner Brook's Pepsi Centre on the internet here and on CBC's Bold specialty digital cable channel at 8:30 p.m. Newfoundland time (8 p.m. in the rest of Atlantic Canada and 7 p.m. in the eastern time zone). CBC Television will carry the show nationwide at 11 p.m. (11:30 p.m. in Newfoundland).

Matt Mays & El Torpedo and Gordie Sampson lead the ECMA nominees with five nods each.

A conference and music festival will take place in Corner Brook from Feb. 26 to March 1. The Tom Fun Orchestra, Brent Randall And His Pinecones, The Superfantastics and former I Mother Earth singer Brian Byrne are a few of the artists who will showcase.
