Pete Doherty is settling an exorbitant cab bill by sharing the profits from the sale of one of his infamous blood paintings with the man he owes.
Taxi company owner Justin Cook says Doherty owes him 1,800 British pounds (about $3,240 Canadian), but the debt will be forgiven in exchange for the Babyshambles frontman splitting the proceeds from 45 signed copies of what he believes is his best painting. Doherty drew the print, which can be viewed on the Arrow Galleries website, at last year's Glastonbury music festival.
"Even if you're in a terrible mood and just painting blind, the finished result is something to look at and cherish," Doherty said in overestimating his talents in an NME.com article. "Like writing a song lyric, carving something, anything made out of nothing you can call your own, something that's been worth doing."
Doherty also contributed to the cover art of his Grace/Wastelands debut solo album that's due out on these shores on March 24.
The painting on the cover was originally done by French artist Alize Meurisse, who was inspired by Oscar Wilde's French-written play Salome, which is also the title of one of the 12 songs on Doherty's album. The singer added some of his blood to the work to give it a more personal touch.
You can download "New Love Grows On Trees" and stream "Broken Love Song," "Lady Don't Fall Backwards" and "Last Of The English Roses" from Grace/Wastelands here.
