Animal Collective Retains The #1 Spot

Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

Do campus radio programmers across this country want Charty Chart Chat to eat its words? How's that for the lamest of conspiracy theories?

About a month ago, Charty Chart Chat was lamenting playlists filled with old albums that had passed their best before dates at Christmas. But February has come in like a lion, as new albums abound on the chart and are pushing old favourites off.

Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion remains at #1 for a second week, but the runner-up is the surprisingly upwardly mobile new album by The Hylozoists. L'Ile De Sept Villes jumps 23 places to #2, forcing The Bicycles' Oh No, It's Love down a notch to #3.

Antony & The Johnson's The Crying Light rises three positions to #4 and is followed by the second of three big movers in the top 10, Andrew Bird's Noble Beast, at #5. Bird's album rose 31 spots from its debut last week. Andre Ethier's Born Of Blue Fog beats that and jumps 39 places to #6.

Timber Timbre's self-titled release falls three positions to #7. Los Campesinos!' We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed slides five spots to #8 and is followed by Ruby Jean & The Thoughtful Bees' eponyomous debut, which slips four notches to #9. Woodpigeon's Treasury Library Canada rises nine places to #10.

The self-titled album by New York's Pains Of Being Pure At Heart arrives at #12 to earn this week's illustrious Chart Sizzler Award. Pains Of Being Pure At Heart appeared on seven campus charts: CJSR (Alberta) at #3; CJAM (Windsor) at #8; CFUV (Victoria) at #11; CHUO (Ottawa) and CILU (Lakehead) at #12; CJSW (Calgary) at #17 and CFRE (Erindale) at #26.

New Pornographers leader A.C. Newman's Get Guilty enters the chart at #18. There are 12 new entries from #24 through to #40, including Jon-Rae Fletcher's Oh, Maria at #26, Hot Panda's Volcano... Bloody Volcano at #30 and Franz Ferdinand's Tonight: Franz Ferdinand at #39.

Three of the specialty charts feature new #1 albums. Kreator's Hordes Of Chaos jumps five spots to gain the #1 spot on the Metal/Punk chart, Ruby Jean & The Thoughtful Bees rises six positions to grab the top spot on Electronic, and Novalima's Coba Coba rises three places to #1 on World/Folk.

The Peggy Lee Band's New Code registers its ninth straight week at #1 on the Jazz/Blues chart, while Madlib's Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute To... sits at #1 on the Hip-Hop top 10 for a second week.
