Is Noel Gallagher PM Material?

Noel Gallagher believes he could become the U.K.'s next prime minister, but he's not promising he'd be particularly good at it.

The Oasis guitarist and songwriter said in a recent interview on Britain's Absolute Radio that he was inspired by Barack Obama's election in the U.S. and that his homeland hasn't had a politician that could speak well since former PM Tony Blair.

When show host Christian O'Connell suggested that Gallagher might make a good leader, the cantankerous musician replied:

"It's not just you saying that, Christian. There will be a groundswell of public opinion sooner or later which will carry me into office, and let me tell you, I'll only be there for five years, and it'll all end in tears, but it'll be a proper laugh while it's happening. The first two years would be kind of tough, but the following three would be amazing."

Gallagher's policies would include making the London subway system the best in the world by shutting it down for a year, "zero tolerance for hoodies" and capital punishment.

"Bring back the gallows," he said. "Open up the Tower Of London and start putting people in there."

Gallagher also had a unique idea for solving the global credit crisis.

"What I want to know is, where has all the money gone? I'd find out where it is, I'd get it back. I'd have a worldwide search down the back of the couch for shrapnel. Club it all together. It all mounts up."

British rapper Dizzee Rascal said last year that he'd consider running for prime minister, so voters could have an interesting race on their hands in the unlikely event that both men follow through on their statements.

A 22-minute Amorphous Androgynous remix of Oasis' "Falling Down" from last year's Dig Out Your Soul will be released as a B-side to the 12-inch single when it comes out in the U.K. on March 9. There will also be remixes of the track by The Prodigy and Twiggy Ramirez and Dave Sardy, as well as a new Oasis song titled "Those Swollen Hand Blues," which will be available with the single in these different formats.

Gallagher wrote in his blog that half of Oasis' fans wouldn't have the attention span to appreciate the extended Amorphous Androgynous mix, but the rest would be "blown away" by it.

"It's a staggering piece of music. Monumental even. All superlatives will apply."
