Pop-punk apparently isn't dead.
Just as Green Day revealed at the 51st Grammy Awards that they'll have a new album in May, Blink-182's Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge have announced their band's reformation.
"We used to play music together, and we decided we're going to play music together again," said Barker on Sunday night's Grammy Awards telecast.
Blink-182's last show took place on Dec. 16, 2004. Barker and Hoppus soon formed +44 and DeLonge started Angels & Airwaves. Neither group came close to matching Blink-182's multi-platinum success through their four studio albums and one live disc.
Bad blood between the two camps was very evident after the men went their separate ways. But Barker's near-death experience in a plane crash, which killed four people and left the drummer and DJ AM with serious burns in September, apparently brought them closer together again.
"To put it simply, we're back," the band wrote in a blog post on the Blink-182 MySpace page. "We mean, really back.
"Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy."
Blink-182 are rumoured to open for Green Day on a large-scale tour this summer.
