Andrew W.K. is working on a television show for Adult Swim.
The hard-partying rocker, whose real name is Andrew Wilkes-Krier, recently invited 100 fans to be the audience for the series' pilot. The show doesn't yet have a title, and there's not much that's known about it other than what W.K.'s been telling people.
"The show is about having fun, partying, rolling around, rolling over, piling up, skipping forth, and ambling about," W.K. told Stereogum. "In addition to that movement, we also dance, strut, talk, ponder, and probe deep into the questions about life and how to live it. During this pilot, we discussed puking and alcohol, standing tall, underdogs and how to have sex."
W.K. says the set is based on a sub-basement in his childhood home that his family stumbled upon. Electronic musician Dan Deacon and actor Andre Royo (a.k.a. Bubbles from The Wire) sat in on the pilot episode, which should give you some idea of what it's like. A girl also apparently told W.K. her entire life story on stage during the program.
"After that, I did a 'Fall-Fast' dance on the stage, and practically fell right off onto that girl's head," said W.K. "She was fine though — no one saw what happened. But we got it on film!"
The singer, songwriter, motivational speaker and Lee "Scratch" Perry producer previously hosted Your Friend, Andrew W.K. on MTV2. The series was kind of like a twisted Ann Landers column, since its premise involved fans writing to W.K. about their problems. If he couldn't provide an answer on air, he'd visit the writers and try to help them work things out.
You can see W.K. at these shows:
Feb. 5 Toronto, ON @ Sound Academy (The FU Awards)
Feb. 6 New York, NY @ Santos Party House (Adult Swim New York Comic Convention party)
Feb. 23 New Orleans, LA @ One Eyed Jack's
