2009 MIMI Format Announced

MONTREAL — Another year, another new format for Montreal's music award show, the Montreal International Music Initiative (MIMI).
The MIMIs jury — made up of prominent members of the local music scene — will choose five artists they think will make a big splash in 2009 and automatically coronate them winners on Feb. 5. Don't expect any big names to walk away with any kudos because the 12th MIMIs "will now highlight emerging artists."
The awards gala and after-party will take place Feb. 28 in conjunction with Montreal's big Nuit Blanche party — an all-night, city-wide fest which celebrates local art and music.
Kudos to the MIMI people for figuring out that award shows are more about the performances and schmoozing than long speeches and video montages.
In addition to the five winners who'll perform and get a chance to win new equipment and a professional photo shoot, the after-party at Les Saints will feature sets from Black Diamond Bay (formerly known as Krief), For Those About To Love, Final Flash, Orange Orange, Hexes & Ohs, Jeune Chilly Chill and Payz Play.
The winners' gala and the after-party are open to the public, and tickets are available at Admission.
