Meg White's Drums Beat Cancer

Detroit artist and music scene insider Jim Shaw had part of his colon removed last month because of cancer that has since spread to his liver and lymph nodes.

Treatment is expensive, and Shaw and his wife Sandy have a lot more goodwill (they're renowned for letting touring bands crash at their place) than money. So musicians and artists have organized an auction at Detroit's C-Pop Gallery and a benefit concert at the nearby Magic Stick on Feb. 7 to raise money to lessen the Shaws' burden.

Meg White's drum kit from The White Stripes' "The Hardest Button To Button" video, works by local artisans and photos of Iggy Pop, The Stooges and The Misfits are among the items up for auction, some of which you can see here.

The show at the cool pool hall/concert venue will feature Greg Cartwright, Dial Tones, The Fondas, The Go, Tyvek, Danny Kroha, Druid Perfume, The Gardens, Human Eye, The Space Heaters, Smashed Windows, Pizazz and rare, unseen film footage of MC5.
