Tokyo Police Club's Graham Wright, Will Currie & The Country French's titular leader and Born Ruffians' Luke Lalonde are headed into the studio for a 24-hour collaboration album project.
Dean Marino (also known as EX~PO) and Chemical Sound Studio's Jay Sadlowski will engineer the album and provide musical contributions. The five men will spend 24 hours writing, recording and mixing as many tracks as possible at Chemical Sound within that time frame. The songs will then be released in a still-unannounced format for free.
Toronto documentary filmmaker Wade Vroom will shoot the event and show the resulting film on a website.
"I think the songs will get a lot more interesting around four in the morning," says Currie. "As we get tired, more creative things will start to come out in the music. Lack of sleep makes your brain think differently."
Tokyo Police Club are working on new material ahead of a U.S. tour that begins in Providence, R.I. on Feb. 24 and includes some dates with Born Ruffians. The band have also designed a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers that can be purchased on the company's website. Ten per cent of the money from sales will go towards fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as part of the (RED) project.
