Former Husker Du and Sugar frontman
Bob Mould will mark the 20th anniversary of his
Workbook solo debut this year by releasing a still-untitled album and writing his autobiography.
Mould produced and mixed the 10-track follow-up to last year's
District Line in his adopted hometown of Washington, D.C. with Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster. It will be released on April 7 by Anti- Records.
Mould will have help on the
book, which will be published next year by Little Brown And Company, from author Michael Azzerad. Azzerad's
Our Band Could Be Your Life book about '80s alternative rock bands included a chapter on Husker Du.
Mould and life and musical partner Richard Morel will hold their next Blowoff DJ night at D.C.'s 9:30 Club on Jan. 17.
Mould will also be part of the March 11 R.E.M. tribute at New York's Carnegie Hall to benefit musical education programs for underprivileged youth. Calexico will act as the house band, and other performers covering R.E.M. songs that night will include Throwing Muses, Kimya Dawson, Ingrid Michaelson, Glenn Hansard, The Apples In Stereo, Marshall Crenshaw, Tommy James And The Shondells, Jolie Holland, Patti Smith, The Feelies, Keren Ann, Guster, Fink, The dB's, Rhett Miller, Vic Chesnutt with Elf Power, Rachael Yamagata and Darius Rucker (you know,
Hootie).
