Amy Winehouse can keep having fun in the sun after she recently avoided a much colder trip to Norway.
The troubled songstress, who's currently vacationing on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, was summoned last month to appear in a Norwegian court on Jan. 12 to appeal her arrest during an October 2007 concert stop in Bergen.
Winehouse and husband Blake Fielder-Civil were both arrested for marijuana possession and held overnight. They were released after paying a fine of 3,000 Norwegian kroner (about $500 Canadian). She later appealed the fine and stated that Norwegian police made mistakes in the case.
"After a careful review of the whole matter, they decided to drop the appeal," attorney Ole Kvelstad told The Associated Press.
Kvelstad gave no further information about Winehouse's reasons for withdrawing her appeal and deciding to accept the charges. He had earlier said the payment of the fine equalled a guilty plea, which could make it difficult for Winehouse to enter the U.S. She was denied a U.S. visa last year when she was asked to perform at the Grammy Awards ceremony.
Instead of continuing to destroy her own life, Winehouse has been working on improving it while on vacation.
"She has consciously been trying to eat better and get fitter for some time now and it is beginning to pay off," her representative Chris Goodman told People.com.
Winehouse even helped save a life. She spotted a six-year-old boy attempting to eat a deadly raw cashew and sprang to his rescue.
"One minute we were having a drink, and the next, she was bolting across the beach to stop this boy from putting a cashew in his mouth," Winehouse's unnamed friend told the U.K.'s Daily Star tabloid.
When Winehouse isn't saving lives, the singer has been spending her time in St. Lucia canoodling with numerous gentlemen "friends," including everyone from Santa Claus to an actor. She was first spotted last week getting "extremely close" to a resort worker known as Matt, who played the role of Santa at her hotel.
"He seems to be really easy-going and funny, which Amy loves," a source told the U.K.'s The Sun tabloid.
"She seems smitten. She slopes off with him whenever she can and they have been inseparable since meeting."
But Winehouse has since been spotted with a new man: former rugby player-turned-actor Josh Bowman.
"She's a cool girl, very nice, and we're just very friendly," Bowman told The Sun. "She's a good laugh.
"It's not been all party-party. I don't drink much at all. I'm not a typical public schoolboy."
Well at least he won't get her addicted to drugs like the last one.
