What's more fun or Canadian than watching hockey, visiting our nation's capitol, drinking beer and listening to homegrown rock? Well, now you can include all four in your New Year's Eve celebrations.
Ottawa's free Samsung New Year's Eve Celebration on the Rideau Canal Skateway boasts hockey and a countdown to midnight with Finger Eleven. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. with a world junior hockey championship preliminary round game between Canada and the U.S. on four big-screen televisions. It will be followed by a performance by The Amanda Rheaume Band. Finger Eleven will play from 11:15 p.m. until two minutes to midnight [Iron Maiden! Doomsday clock!] and will play another set at 12:15 a.m.
Finger Eleven must be feeling festive because they're giving away an iPod Touch in their "Best Songs Of 2008 Holiday Contest." You can enter on the Burlington, Ont. band's MySpace blog page by posting your 10 favourite songs there.
Finger Eleven toured with Seether this summer and had scheduled a British tour that had to be cancelled when singer Scott Anderson sprained his neck. He recovered in time for a couple of European shows this month with Kid Rock.
Finger Eleven released their fourth LP, Them Vs. You Vs. Me, last year. It won the 2008 Juno Award for best rock album.
