Lily Allen is in trouble with her record label because she did a Britney Spears cover.
Mark Ronson — who produced both Allen's 2006 Alright, Still debut and her upcoming It's Not Me, It's You sophomore album — recently played her cover of Spears' "Womanizer" on his British radio show. This prompted Allen's fans to rip the track and post it online, which upset EMI.
"now some of you may be wondering why i covered 'womanizer,' simple really, i love britney and i love the song , it wasn't my intention for it to have whizzed around the world like it is, mark ronson asked me for something no one had heard to play on his radio show and womanizer was the only song I had as an attachment on my blackberry and I couldn't get home to send him anything else in time," Allen wrote in a Dec. 15 MySpace blog entry.
Allen asked the producer to talk over the track so it wouldn't be ripped and put on the internet, but he didn't.
"thanks mark for getting me in serious trouble with my record company," she wrote.
Allen wished her fans a "happy christmas" in the same blog entry. She posted a "little film that my friend rob made" that she found "quite chrismassy." The minute-and-a-half video features Allen dressed as a wind-up doll with a key in her back, and she's seen wandering around amongst various other toys and gigantic letters and numbers.
"it was all shot on the day of my album cover shoot, I hope you enjoy it, see you next year, i am so excited, everything seems to be falling into place and I couldn't be happier. touch wood," Allen wrote.
