Coldplay Break Up... Again And Again

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin recently backtracked on an earlier comment that his group would retire after next year, but they may break up before they have a chance to retire.

Wait, they just broke up. Maybe. Don't worry, they'll be back together again by the time you finish reading this article.

The last time Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion split up was earlier this month after finding out they were being sued for copyright infringement by guitarist Joe Satriani.

But Martin says they've already broken up "six or seven" times on their tour in support of Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, so fans shouldn't take such news too seriously.

"Every time we do, we get back together about 20 minutes later," Martin told the U.K.'s Daily Mirror newspaper backstage at their show at London, England's 02 Arena. "We don't even have time to announce it.

"Each time we say, 'This is it! This is the last show!' But then you have a fun show and everyone shuts up. The last time it happened... well, even our publicist wouldn't have found out about it.

"To be honest, whenever we have any bad news, I always quit for about 10 minutes. I get depressed about something — a gig didn't go well or that person said something terrible. But then the rest of the band will say, 'It's OK, we'll carry on.'"

Coldplay have been nominated for seven 2009 Grammy Awards. They announced in the last week that they've added shows in New Zealand, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands to the 2009 leg of their world tour in support of Viva La Vida. Wagers are now being taken on how many times the group will break up during that time.
