Cops Thwart Fall Out Boy Show

Fall Out Boy thought of a genius way to launch Folie A Deux in New York City — or so they thought.

Singer/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley took over a stage in Washington Square Park on Monday to play a free show. But it turned out they didn't have a permit to do so, which meant the cops shut the performance down.

They were told if they picked up their instruments and started playing, they'd end up in jail. But Fall Out Boy found a loophole and led the audience in a sing-along before abandoning the show. We guess the cops forgot about the band's most important instruments: their voices. Hurley used his knees as drums, while Wentz and Trohman played air and bass guitar.

In an interview with MTV News, Stump compared the cops to "the Grinch. They just took all the presents."

Wentz said the band had been excited to play Washington Square Park because it was the same place Bob Dylan performed in the '60s.

"No one was going to get hurt, it was just fans," said Wentz. "But in the '60s, they used to beat up folk singers, so, you know, at least no one got punched."

Folie A Deux came out on Tuesday, and the free NYC show was supposed to be part of a viral marketing campaign to promote it.

Wentz also recently spoke about how much he loves his new son with Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Bronx Mowgli Wentz.

"Every time I see my son, it looks like he's landing on the moon and discovering new rocks and stuff," he told People magazine. "I mean, every time he looks at his hand, it's like he's Christopher Columbus making it across the ocean. It's pretty awesome."

Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy has been made Bronx Mowgli's godfather, and the baby has apparently inspired McCoy and girlfriend Katy Perry a bit.

"When I passed Bronx off to her, we both looked at each other," McCoy told People. "Any young couple in love around another young couple in love, it's inevitable that you're going to get that spirit."

The thought of Perry and McCoy having children scares us a bit.
