The Golden Dogs played what they claimed would be their last show of the year on Oct. 15 and entered Toronto's Illeagle Studios on Monday, exactly two months later, to begin work on their third album.
"We are hungry for some recorded time," The Golden Dogs posted on their MySpace blog on Monday. "Keep an eye out for updates, pics, and footage."
The songs the band plan to record are "Burst," "Weapon," "Gelsomina," "Old Hat," "Lester," "The Power," "Parade," "When The Day Finally Comes," "Bossanova," "Permanent Record," "Black Soul" and "Bassline." All the songs were written by Dave Azzolini and Jessica Grassia, and some should be familiar to anyone who has been to a Golden Dogs concert in the past year.
"They are planning to take their time, so newer songs could be written and older ones discarded," says manager Graham Stairs. "I’m anticipating a spring release."
The Toronto group will co-produce the album with Carlin Nicholson, who comprises one half of Zeus and is a member of Jason Collett's touring band. The Golden Dogs, Collett and Zeus will play Toronto's Dakota Tavern on Dec. 23. The band have also been invited to perform at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in March.
The Golden Dogs' "Never Meant Any Harm" is used over the opening credits of a new snowboard movie from Actionhorse Films called Pony Tale. The song fits well with footage of a guy with a horse head walking around and discovering skateboarding, golf and soccer. You can watch the film here:
