Jazz/pop crooner Michael Buble and muscular music icon Thor now have one degree of separation. No, it’s not their power over the ladies that unites them, but their influence over a group of tough, sweaty men: the Western Hockey League's Vancouver Giants.
Buble has joined the Giants' ownership group along with majority owner Ron Toigo and co-owners Sultan Thiara, Pat Quinn and Gordie Howe.
Thor asked that same team to wear Vancouver Millionaires uniforms for a game in November. The Vancouver Millionaires won the Stanley Cup in 1915 and folded 11 years later.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful team, management and ownership — a group of winners," says Buble, a native of Burnaby, B.C.
Toigo had this to say about Buble’s addition to the team:
"Having someone of Michael's stature get involved at the ownership level is a real statement on the strength of the Vancouver Giants brand, and that of the Western Hockey League as a whole. We're very excited to welcome Michael to the organization, and look forward to having his energy and enthusiasm in the Giants family."
The Giants' next home game is on Dec. 14 against the Prince George Cougars (and the cougars who make up a large percentage of Buble's fan base might be interested in his new 14-month calendar) as part of "Jersey Off Our Backs Night." Fans in attendance can win special-edition Buble, Howe and Quinn jerseys, as well as game-worn jerseys from the team's players.
Thor recently reissued 1978's Keep The Dogs Away and hopes to get into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame one day.
