Andrew W.K. Joins Evaporators On Stage

The Evaporators
You might remember when Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos sang "Take Me Out" with The Evaporators at Mint Records' 2006 Ridiculously Early Xmas Party. Well, Nardwuar The Human Serviette's band were joined by another guest on Friday night in Vancouver: Andrew W.K.

Nardwuar grabbed W.K. out of the audience at Vancouver's Ukrainian Hall to join The Evaporators for their track "I Don't Need My Friends To Tell Me Who My Friends Are." The Evaporators then backed W.K. on his "Party Hard," "Ready To Die" and "She Is Beautiful." They also covered "Don't Sell Hot Dogs Tonite" by Toronto's Leather Uppers.

The Subhumans' Wimpy Roy then joined the partiers to sing "Oh Canaduh." The event ended with D.O.A.'s Randy Rampage and Jon Card coming on stage to join everyone else in covering The Subhumans' "Fuck You."

If you thought W.K.'s hook-up with The Evaporators was a one-night stand, think again. The rocker and Nardwuar's band will release a split seven-inch EP titled A Wild Pear early next year that will include "Oh Canaduh" and "Don't Sell Hot Dogs Tonite."

"I've been a fan of Nardwuar since I first saw him on bootleg VHS copies of his cable access TV shows," says W.K. "Then I found out about The Evaporators, and I was even more blown away.

"I consider this release to be the result of a magical circle, one that started for me back in high school, while living in southeast Michigan. Having the opportunity to meet Nardwuar was a dream come true and the first time the circle connected. Getting to make this record with him is the circle coming together another time, and I'm very grateful."
