Stephen Colbert's Christmas album didn't take the top spot on iTunes this week like he'd hoped, but he still succeeded in humbling Kanye West.
Colbert's A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All! was the second best-selling album on iTunes on Thursday night, just behind Britney Spears' Circus, which debuted at #1 on iTunes this week. West's 808s & Hearbreak, meanwhile, was behind Colbert's Christmas album in the #4 spot.
"We did it," Colbert exclaimed on Thursday night's episode of The Colbert Report. "We humbled him!"
The TV show host then asked for some celebratory music... and West's "Stronger" was played.
"That was some great music," Colbert said. "Everybody should buy that."
Colbert also called attention to recent "unprovoked attacks" on him by West, in addition to West's Twitter status from earlier this week.
"I mean, why buy Kanye's album? You can basically hear it for free. Just put a tin can to your ear and lean against a Pac-Man machine."
On Monday's episode of The Colbert Report, Colbert attacked West, whose album then occupied the top spot on iTunes, while Colbert's Christmas album sat at #16. Colbert asked all his viewers to flood iTunes at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and buy his album so Colbert could "humble" West by outselling him.
We're still waiting for West's appearance on the program for a rap battle. Seriously, can you imagine the sheer awesomeness of Colbert rapping? When I think about it, it makes me break out into giggles.
