Goldfinger Drummer Goes Disco

Darrin Pfeiffer
It sounded absurd to us, too, but Darrin Pfeiffer, the drummer for veteran ska-pop-punks Goldfinger, has gone disco.

More specifically, Pfeiffer is helping host a giant disco party at Toronto's Sound Academy on Nov. 29 on behalf of the United Way.

Our curiosity got the best of us, so we fired off a few email questions to Pfeiffer, trying to figure out this apparent switch to the polyester side. His responses had a lot of exclamation marks...

What the fuck?
Dude... disco music is the new black. What's old is new again dude. Disco indeed does not SUCK... it fuckin rules!!! All the old punk bands of the 70's LOVED disco!! Johnny Rotten was a disco freak. Joey Ramone frequented NYC disco dives all the time. Disco=punk... punk=disco!!!

That's fine, give us another reason why we should care.
Ok... back in the 70's there were no sexually transmitted diseases that could KILL you... let's relive that... even for ONE NIGHT (bring condoms).

Let's face it, disco gets no respect. Defend some of these cats.
The Commodores!!!! BRICK HOUSE!!! Come on man... that song has stood the test of time. Celebration by Kool & The Gang... DUDE... NO ONE hates that song!! Lenny Kravitz couldn't carry Lionel Ritchie's mic stand!!

Alright, are there going to be lots of hot pants at least?

Although you don't have to dress up it's HIGHLY recommended. Polyester, afros, hairy chests, gold chains... all good things. Hot pants? Sure... rocks those baby!!

Anything else to add?
1970+2008=70's DISCO PARTY!!!! See you Saturday the 29th at the Sound Academy....SMOOTH!!!

Tickets are $17 and are available through Ticketmaster.ca. In addition to Pfeiffer, other celebrity DJs will include Skate 4 Cancer's Rob Dyer, XM Satellite Radio's Kelowna Vincent and Toronto radio station 102.1 The Edge's Barry Taylor. The Edge's Dean Blundell will also be on hand to host and judge the best dance and costume contests. All proceeds will go to the United Way.
