D.O.A. singer/guitarist Joey "Shithead" Keithley has been named one of B.C.'s 150 most influential people of all time by The Vancouver Sun newspaper.
Now, the goal is to put him as high up on that list as possible. You can vote for 10 candidates from the list posted here until Dec. 21.
Other music artists on the list include Bryan Adams, Randy Bachman, Michael Buble, Nelly Furtado, Ben Heppner, Diana Krall and Joni Mitchell.
In other D.O.A. news, a movie called Slap Shot 3: The Junior League has just come out on DVD. The soundtrack for the bad-actin' and hockey-playin' Hanson Brothers flick features three of the band's songs: "Donnybrook" and "Human Bomb" from the recently released Northern Avenger; and "Beat 'Em, Bust 'Em" from a split seven-inch single that also included the Hanson Brothers (the B.C. hockey- and punk rock-lovin' version) favourite, "Can't Hide The Heino."
Here are the 10 British Columbians who got my vote, and why:
Pamela Anderson: I'd do her.
Randy Bachman: I ate more than he did at a buffet when we went for lunch together a number of years ago, when he was really big.
Raymond Burr: Not only did the actor play Perry Mason on television, but he was also Ironside. Name another TV detective who tracked down crooks in a wheelchair.
Yvonne De Carlo: She was Lily Munster and listed Howard Hughes as an "intimate friend" in her 1987 autobiography.
Sam Feldman: He's one of Canada's most successful music business entrepreneurs, he manages Elvis Costello and he's a good guy.
Terry Fox: Most of my friends won't walk a couple of blocks. This guy only had one leg and planned to run from St. John's to Victoria before his "Marathon Of Hope" was tragically cut short after his cancer worsened.
Joey Keithley: He's the godfather of Canadian punk rock and a big-time social and political activist.
Silken Laumann: She was a determined, hard-working athlete who won three Olympic medals in rowing. She's now a top motivational speaker and founder of Silken's ActiveKids Movement, which attempts to get kids off the couch and into parks and gyms to play. I interviewed her four years ago for the Toronto Sun and she was great.
Howie Meeker: He taught me hockey skills (that I was never able to master) on his CBC Television show when I was a kid.
Harold Snepsts: Not only was he a bruising NHL defenceman, but The Dik Van Dykes wrote and recorded the classic "Harold Snepsts" about him.
