Simple Plan lead singer Pierre Bouvier's brother Jay was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma three years ago when he was 28. Although his cancer is now in remission after chemotherapy, it had a major impact on the Montreal band.

The group's "Save You" single from their recently released self-titled album was written as a tribute to Jay, and net proceeds from each download will be distributed to cancer charities through the Simple Plan Foundation.

You can watch "Pierre & Jay's Story," as told to George Stroumboulopoulos, here.

Simple Plan and Think MTV want people to share stories of how cancer has affected them or someone in their lives. The band also want to talk about how "Save You" came about, so they're urging folks to write 200 words about why they think raising cancer awareness is important.

Those thoughts — along with full name, age, email address, phone number and a time they can be reached — should be emailed to think@mtv.com. Selected entries will be contacted to take part in a Nov. 25 interview with Simple Plan. Participants will then be asked to blog about the conversation on think.mtv.com.

Simple Plan are touring Europe with Zebrahead until the end of the month and will play shows in Tel Aviv, Israel and Dubai, United Arab Emirates during the first week of December. Bouvier fulfilled a dream by playing drums with Zebrahead on "Wasted" in Milan on Nov. 13, which you can see below:

Here's the video for "Save You":
