Matt Good Gets Cat

Matt Good has a new friend named Eli that has four legs, a tail, black and white fur and bright yellow eyes and makes "meow" noises. Yes, Eli is a cat.

Good wrote in a Nov. 16 post on his website that he was fostering Eli for a few weeks. This is Good's first time raising a cat, but he's looked after four dogs since they were puppies. Those dogs have had a mixed reaction to Eli. You can view pictures of Eli and Good's dogs on his website.

"Last night he slept for periods next to Casey, who is far more relaxed around him than Benji is," wrote Good. "Benji tends to bark and jump around playfully, which, were Eli a puppy, would be fine, but being that he's a cat it scares him."

But unlike Benji, Good seems to like Eli, and his presence in the house has made Good realize that "cats are a lot less work." Eli prefers dog food over his own and uses a litter box, which means much less mess for Good to clean up. But that doesn't mean Eli isn't a troublemaker.

"Given his size, and the amount of trouble that he can no doubt get into, I woke up at 4:30 in the morning to discover him running around the apartment, so I spent an hour and a half sitting on the couch until he tired himself out," Good continued. "I have the feeling that that’s going to be a routine feature over the next two weeks."

If the dogs become used to Eli, Good says he may keep him. If not, he'll return him to the British Columbia Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals so someone can adopt him.

"And yes, this does symbolize the terrible 'I'm pushing 40' reality that I have basically abandoned hopes of having an intimate relationship with a woman and replaced that void with having a cavalcade of pets for company," Good wrote. "Sad, I know."

Good was due to begin recording the follow-up to last year's Hospital Music in December, but it's been pushed back to Jan. 5.

That's the problem with musicians' personal blogs. They are somehow considered a legitimate form of journalistic research and an easy way of creating filler in lieu of actually sitting down and properly reviewing a record or conducting an interview. Stay tuned for "Dallas Green purchases new toothbrush", it's going to be great!

You just said it all yourself. Personal Blog. The only difference between him and anybody else is that you can buy his albums on iTunes. The man is allowed to write about whatever he pleases. If you don't like it, don't read it. Problem solved.

I don't mind it if Matt Good writes on his blog that he got a cat. That's perfectly fine with me.  What I don't like is when an article is written for a professional magazine/website about something like this. The only part of the article that I found newsworthy is the part at the end about him pushing the recording of his new album back a month. It would be the same if it were anyone else getting a cat; that's great, good for you, but it's not really important news.
