Perhaps because no one cares how much he and Wilco hate each other anymore, Ryan Adams has verbally attacked The Killers.
Despite the fact that Killers frontman Brandon Flowers recently told the Winnipeg Sun newspaper that his band's music "is for everybody," Adams told The Guardian newspaper that he dislikes the Las Vegas band. His comments came after a Guardian journalist asked him, "When will I be famous?"
"Fame is an unnatural construct and those who go in search of it are the least likely to find it," Adams said. "I mean, really, does anyone want to sit through a show by The Killers? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, unfortunately with the exception of The Killers."
Adams, who's known for off-the-wall interviews with comments that frequently make little sense (read his blog for a taste), also went off on R.E.M. and Michael Stipe after he was asked, "What's the frequency, Kenneth?"
"The answer should be, 'Hey Michael [Stipe], what would happen if you sat down and actually thought this shit out for 10 minutes?'" he asked. "I mean, no offence but there's a slight difference between Monster and Fables Of The Reconstruction and we all know what that is; it's a level of giving a fuck."
Just a note to Adams: Answering a question with a question is not answering the question.
Flowers inadvertently responded to Adams' comments with what he wanted to be a non-response in his interview with the Winnipeg Sun.
"[Ryan]'s probably never been to a Killers show," Flowers said. "I'm not even going to start.
"It's stupid. It doesn't do anybody any good. Like that comment that he just made isn't doing us any good and it's not going to do him any good. He's going to wake up in a few days after being asked about it a million times and he's going to regret it. It's better to just stay out of it. He needs a little press, maybe?"
Flowers recently said he's upset that fans have been making fun of the lyrics to "Human," the first single from the soon-to-be-released Day & Age. People apparently think a line in which Flowers sings, "Are we human, or are we dancer?" sounds more like, "Are we human, or are we denser?"
While it's true that The Killers' lyrics have never made sense ("Somebody Told Me," anyone?), Flowers says he thinks his fans should learn their literature (or at least their gonzo journalism), because the line comes from a Hunter S. Thompson quote.
"That sucks a bit," Flowers said, according to the World Entertainment News Network. "I don't like, 'Are we denser?' as an alternative. I really care what people think, but people don't seem to understand 'Human.'
"They think it's nonsense. But I was aching over those lyrics for a very long time to get them right."
Flowers should probably take consolation in the fact that even Jimi Hendrix's lyrics have been misheard, but will the bird king (has anyone seen that feathery costume he wears these days?) and his troos be remembered in the rock history books the same way? Hmm...

Nice. Brandon looks like he wants to punch Ryan.
I'm thinking Ryan would win this fight... anyone else?
