Black Keys DVD, Auerbach Solo Disc Coming

The Black Keys will release a live DVD today, while the band's Dan Auerbach will unveil his solo debut next year.

The Black Keys Live At The Crystal Ballroom was filmed at a sold-out gig on April 4 in Portland, Ore. The Nonesuch release was directed and produced by Lance Bangs (R.E.M.'s Road Movie, The Hives: Live On The Sunset Strip). It features a 17-song performance, videos for "Your Touch," "Just Got To Be" and "Strange Times," and behind-the-scenes footage of the recording of the band's most recent album, Attack & Release.

Auerbach, the Black Keys' singer/guitarist, will see his Keep It Hid solo effort released by Nonesuch on Feb. 10. It includes 14 songs that Auerbach apparently set aside for a number of years. The album was recorded at the artist's Akron, Ohio studio.

Auerbach's father Chuck wrote "Whispered Words." His uncle, James Quine, sings and plays electric guitar on "Street Walkin'." Jessica Lea Mayfield contributes to "When The Night Comes."

"It's all over the map," Auerbach told Billboard.com of the album. "I write songs for The Black Keys, so some of them sound like they could be Black Keys songs.

"But some songs are just acoustic guitar. There's some real dark tunes and some psychedelic rumbas. It's all that stuff I grew up playing — all those bluegrass harmonies. I experimented a little bit with instrumentation."

The Black Keys recently had a songwriting session with ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and producer Rick Rubin. The blues-rock duo of Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney are now touring Europe and will play dates in Australia and the U.S. from late December through the first week of February.

They'll take a break so Auerbach can play 11 solo shows beginning on Feb. 28 in Washington, D.C. Texas band Hacienda will serve as both the opening act and Auerbach's backing band for the American tour.
