VanGaalen's Back For Eighth #1 Week

It's weeks like this when I'm reminded of the oft-quoted line (especially on The Sopranos), "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in."
Just when we thought Chad VanGaalen's Soft Airplane had finally left the #1 spot on the top 50 chart for good, it moves back up two places to hold the top position for its eighth week in total.
Mother Mother's O My (Heart) drops back again to #2. Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping rises four spots to #3, while TV On The Radio's Dear Science slides two spaces to #4. Jay Reatard's Matador Singles '08 and Land Of Talk's Some Are Lakes trade places at #5 and #6 respectively. Two of the remaining four top 10 entries have rocketed from the middle of last week's chart. The Organ's Thieves moves up 21 places to #7, while Michael Rault’s Crash! Boom! Bang! also moves up 21 spots to #10.
This week's Chart Sizzler Award goes to Gang Gang Dance's Saint Dymphna, which enters at #18. This album garnered the top debut on the strength of three top 10 finishes — #3 on CITR (UBC), #7 on CFRU (Guelph) and #9 on CHYZ (Laval). You can also check out video of the band live in France here. Thievery Corporation's Radio Retaliation is the second highest debut at #21, The Souljazz Orchestra's Manifesto arrives at #23, Deerhunter's Microcastle enters at #26 and I'm From Barcelona's Who Killed Harry Houdini? checks in at #28.
Elliott Brood's Mountain Meadows continues to march toward semi-immortality. It's been on the chart for 17 weeks, but drops 11 places to #31, while both Women's self-titled debut at #17 and The Stills' Oceans Will Rise at #35 have both remained on the chart for 13 weeks.
There was substantial movement at the top of the five specialty charts. This is the second consecutive charting period where there's only one surviving #1 from the previous week: Amon Amarth's Twilight Of The Thunder God on the Metal/Punk chart.
Josh Martinez's The World Famous Sex Buffet returns to #1 on the Hip-Hop top 10, a position it held two weeks ago. The remaining three #1s achieve the honour for the first time.
Lubo & Kaba Horo's Contrabanda jumps four spots to #1 on the World/Folk chart. Lowfish's Frozen & Broken on Electronic and the Bob Brough Quartet's Time Away on Jazz/Blues both debut at the top. This is common on the volatile Jazz/Blues top 10, but is relatively unprecedented on the more fluid Electronic chart.
