Manson Asked To Play For Obama?

Marilyn Manson
Evan Rachel Wood says ex-boyfriend Marilyn Manson was going to play a show to back Barack Obama's presidential campaign, but she talked him out of it.

In an interview with E! Online at Sunday's Behind The Camera Awards, she said she told 39-year-old Manson (real name Brian Warner) that he shouldn't perform in support of the Illinois senator, but not because she doesn't like or support the now president-elect.

"I said, 'If you show up there, it's not going to be good. It's going to bring a lot of controversy, which I know you love, but Obama doesn't need it right now.'"

An Obama spokesperson later denied Wood's claim, and emailed E! Online to say Manson was never asked to play an Obama benefit.

Wood, 21, was recently linked to actor Mickey Rourke, 56. The two were spotted cavorting at the Venice Film Festival in September and promptly denied they were together. They continue to deny rumours that they're a couple.

"She's a good friend, that's it," Rourke said when some paparazzi confronted him in the street about the rumours, according to Perez Hilton. "And tell that faggot who wrote all that shit in the paper I'd like to break his fucking legs."

Rourke later apologized for using a gay slur after this comment ended him in some hot water.

"I want to sincerely apologize for the derogatory word I used," he said. "It was insensitive and inappropriate of me and I am deeply sorry that i may have offended anyone."

Wood dumped Manson earlier this month. The two began dating in December 2006, and Manson reportedly thought Wood was his soulmate. Initial reports were that Wood dumped Manson after he tried to kick Wood's brother out of her guest house.

"Evan owned the house and didn't want her unemployed sibling living on the street," a source told The Star tabloid. "It was the tipping point. Evan was fed up with how controlling and emotionally abusive Marilyn was."

But Wood later told People magazine that this wasn't so. She said she and Manson broke up because of her work, and the actress' brother has nothing to do with why they ended their relationship.

"Manson and I both decided to take some time apart so we could concentrate on work," she said. "Someone used that opportunity to kick us while we were down and sell a completely false story."

Wood went on to say that "Manson has been by my side and taken care of me through the best and worst of times. I love him as a person and an artist. I will always be proud to have been a part of that."

Awwww...
