After the doom and gloom report last week on the state of campus chart reporting, things have rebounded with a number of music directors getting back to work again after possible trips to POP Montreal, the Western Canadian Music Awards in Edmonton or CMJ in New York City. October is becoming the music conference month. So, welcome back MDs, and keep those cards and letters coming.
There's a new #1 album on the Canadian campus radio chart after seven weeks. Mother Mother's O My (Heart) moves up a spot to displace Chad VanGaalen's long-reigning Soft Airplane, which drops two spots to #3. TV On The Radio's Dear Science also rises a spot to #2, while Deerhoof's Offend Maggie at #4 and Land Of Talk's Some Are Lakes at #5 remain where they were last week.
Jay Reatard's Matador Singles '08 rockets up 30 positions to #6, while Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping claims the Chart Sizzler Award for debuting at #7. Fucked Up's The Chemistry Of Common Life rises 17 places to #8, while the #9 spot is filled by another new entry: Antony & The Johnsons' Another World. Women's self-titled release rounds out the top 10.
There are other notable new entries further down the chart. Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains' eponymous album arrives at #16. Vivian Girls' self-titled album debuts at #25 and The Organ's Thieves enters at #28. The Weirdies' The Weirdies In 3D re-enters the chart at #26, while Rae Spoon's SuperiorYouAreInferior returns at #30.
Elliott Brood's Mountain Meadows is at #20, and has lasted 16 weeks on the chart. Ratatat's LP3 sees some renewed radio interest in its 14th week on the chart, jumping 22 places to #19. Stars' Sad Robots EP moves up 19 positions to #14. Novillero's A Little Tradition slides 33 positions to #43 and the Everybody Dance Now Volume 3 compilation drops 28 spots to #49.
There was some significant movement on the specialty charts, with four of the five featuring new #1 albums. Amon Amarth's Twilight Of The Thunder God rose two spots to take over #1 on the Metal/Punk chart. Tobacco's Fucked Up Friends moved one place to grab top spot on the Electronic chart and Madlib's WLIB AM: King Of The Wigflip jumped five positions to land at #1 on the Hip-Hop top 10. Curumin's Japan Pop Show ascended four positions to #1 on the World/Folk chart. The only #1 album to survive this week's purge is Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Kinsmen, which remains at #1 on the Jazz/Blues chart.
