The Barenaked Ladies were forced to cancel a children's concert in New York this summer after singer/guitarist Steven Page was arrested and charged with cocaine possession in July. But now, Page and co. have announced two children's shows for December, along with three "Barenaked For The Holidays" performances.
Three of the shows will take place at Toronto's Massey Hall, while two of the shows will be held at Southam Hall in Ottawa's National Arts Centre. The dates are in support of the Ladies' Snacktime, an album of original children's songs, which was released earlier this year.
Given some of these shows are holiday gigs, we wonder if that will mean the inclusion of original children's Hanukkah or Christmas songs. We're willing to bet that songs about coke won't be on the table, though.
In the meantime, Page is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 28 to face drug possession charges stemming from his arrest in July. He was originally due to appear in a Fayetteville, N.Y. court on Oct. 14, but the case was delayed for the second time because Page's lawyer said he needed more time to prepare.
Although court documents apparently claim Page admitted to snorting cocaine in girlfriend Christine Benedicto's apartment before he was arrested, he has pleaded not guilty to charges of cocaine possession. Page could face up to five-and-a-half years in prison if he is found guilty.
BNL will play these shows:
Dec. 6 Toronto, ON @ Massey Hall (2 p.m. children's show)
Dec. 6-7 Toronto, ON @ Massey Hall (8 p.m.)
Dec. 13 Ottawa, ON @ Southam Hall at National Arts Centre (2 p.m. children's show)
Dec. 13 Ottawa, ON @ Southam Hall at National Arts Centre (8 p.m.)
