New Franz Ferdinand Album In January

Franz Ferdinand
Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand have confirmed the title of their third album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, which will be released on Jan. 27 via Sony/Epic.

Frontman Alex Kapranos came up with the title after imagining the band's name on a sign.

"I can picture a marquee outside a theatre saying 'Tonight: Franz Ferdinand,'" he told NME. "There's a sense of anticipation."

Dan Carey (Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue) produced the follow-up to 2005's You Could Have It So Much Better in Scotland and mixed it in London. Kapranos told The U.K.'s The Daily Record that Tonight: Franz Ferdinand was inspired by — wait for it — reggae.

"[Carey has] also worked with people like The Mad Professor, Lee Perry and Sly & Robbie. His mixing style comes a lot from a Jamaican approach. There are a lot of dub techniques used in the way that we've recorded."

Kapranos also said that there's "definitely a streak of electronica to the record."

Fans got a taste of the new album in August when "Lucid Dreams" was featured on the soundtrack to the Madden NFL 09 video game. You can currently hear the song on their website.
