Don't believe everything you read, kiddies. That's what
Sum 41's
Deryck Whibley said in a press release issued on his band's MySpace page concerning the status of his two year marriage to
Avril Lavigne.
A
blog post titled "Totally Fake Gossip" states the rumours started by the
National Enquirer on Oct. 20 are completely false.
"For the record, we strongly deny the inference of martial problems between Avril and Deryck," reads the statement. "We also strongly deny the
National Enquirer claims of any other liaisons.
"Deryck has in fact been travelling through Asia performing with Avril as evidenced by the numerous YouTube videos."
"I'm actually very surprised that so many media outlets picked this story up," says Whibley in the statement. "Since when did the
National Enquirer become a trust worthy news source?"
Rumours swirled that the couple "have been growing apart for months," but the
San Francisco Chronicle reports the two were pretty close on Monday night when they were spotted holding hands while leaving Madeo, a restaurant in Los Angeles.
Lavigne and Whibley started dating in 2004 and got engaged a year later in Venice, Italy. The two were wed in 2006 at a private ceremony in Montecito, Calif.
Not at all coincidentally, the press release also states that Sum 41 will return to the studio in 2009 to record the follow-up to last year's
Underclass Hero.
