Alice In Chains Recording

Alice In Chains

Even though Layne Staley has been dead for over six years now and Alice In Chains haven't released anything since 1995, the Seattle grunge band are heading to the studio this month to record a new album.

According to a post by "The Baldy" on the official Alice In Chains website (which only site members can see), the three surviving Chains — guitarist/singer Jerry Cantrell, bassist/singer Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney — are set to record a new album with new singer William DuVall sometime this month. It should be released sometime next year.

"We've been working about the last four months, and there's a good bulk of music and a good body of work so far, and we're having fun, and you know, we're taking our time and trying to figure out where William fits in and where we need to step up, and I have all the confidence in the world in the guys," Cantrell told The Pulse Of Radio earlier this year. "The most important thing to me is that we're all together and, you know, it's been a tough and painful experience at times, but it's been very rewarding at the same time."

Cantrell, Inez and Kinney began playing together again in 2005, and DuVall joined the band the next year. Alice In Chains were originally formed in 1987 and released three studio albums from 1990 to 1995.

Although Alice In Chains never officially split up until 2002, Staley became a recluse and his well publicized heroin addiction and other drug problems prevented him from continuing to work with the band. He co-wrote two new songs with Alice In Chains in 1998, but was found dead in his Seattle home from an overdose of cocaine and heroin in 2002.
