Hooded Fang Have An "Arts Gala"

Hooded Fang
Hooded Fang are upset with the Harper government's cuts to arts and culture, and they've written a new song as a protest.

Back in August, Harper justified $45 million of arts and culture funding cuts by saying, "When ordinary, working people come home, turn on the TV and see... a bunch of people at a rich gala all subsidized by the taxpayers, claiming their subsidies aren't high enough when they know the subsidies have actually gone up, I'm not sure that's something that resonates with ordinary people."

Hooded Fang don't agree with the prime minister's moves and wrote the cheekily-named "Arts Gala" in response. You can download the electro-pop track here.

"Harper's image of wealthy artists lounging at taxpayer-funded parties is a hopelessly vague stereotype that fails to depict the actual Richie-Rich-level richness of Canada's artists or indeed the AWESOMENESS of these government arts galas," Hooded Fang say in a statement. "Seriously. They're off the hook."

Nicholas Hune-Brown wrote the lyrics and handles lead vocals. Daniel Lee composed the music and supplies the hook vocals, while Lorna Wright provides the female vocals.

The band also shot a video for "Arts Gala," which you can view below:

The six-piece Hooded Fang formed last winter and released a self-produced, self-titled, five-song EP in June.

You can check out Hooded Fang with Owle Bird at Guelph's Ebar on Oct. 22 and with Born Ruffians and Henri Faberge And The Adorables at Toronto's Opera House on Nov. 1. Unfortunately, they aren't playing any arts galas.
