Hank Williams III is bringing cowpunk back into stores on Oct. 21 with the Curb Records release of Damn Right Rebel Proud.
Williams (real name Shelton Hank Williams) recorded his fourth studio album over two weeks at his east Tennessee home with friends. He describes it as "Jekyll and Hyde," as it's split between country songs and louder, more hellbilly-oriented material. He recently shot a video for "Long Hauls And Close Calls," which he describes as a "crossover" track that has "a little bit of the scream for the kids in black and a little bit of the banjo and dobro for the country folks." You can see the clip of the hellbilly version on Hank III's MySpace page, where you can also hear "Me And My Friends" and "6 Pack Of Beer."
Williams is the grandson of Hank Williams, Sr. and the son of Hank Williams, Jr. His music gives the aural middle finger to the traditional Nashville sound and he's known for splitting his performances into a traditional country set followed by a hellbilly set and then a metallic set with his band, Assjack.
Williams was also a member of the now-defunct Superjoint Ritual with former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo. He originally joined the band as their touring bassist and later guested on their 2003 A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred debut. His last solo album was 2006's Straight To Hell.
