Jakalope Open Rock N Roll Church

Jakalope
Dave "Rave" Ogilvie's new-look Jakalope will open the inaugural Rock N Roll Church event at Toronto's Circa on Oct. 26.

Chrystal Leigh has taken over lead vocal duties for the band from Katie B, who left last year to pursue a solo career.

"I've always been drawn towards Dave's work and it's nice to finally collaborate with someone I respect and who inspires me," says Leigh. "If there's one thing Jakalope was missing was a chemistry between music and vocals, and I'm excited to be that new voice."

Ogilvie is a former member of Skinny Puppy and has done production, engineering and remix work for Marilyn Manson, Killing Joke, Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie, among many others.

Ogilvie formed Jakalope in 2003 and released It Dreams in 2004 and Born 4 in 2006. While there's a constant rotation of band members, Monster Magnet's Phil Caivano, SNFU's Matt Warhurst, Sean Stubbs, Fu's Anthony Valcic and "The Three Dons" — Don Harrison, Don Binns and Don Short — are all primary contributors. Trent Reznor, Kat Bjelland, Alex Lifeson, Thom D'arcy and Jeremy Fisher are among the guests who've appeared on the two records.

Jakalope are shopping around for a label to release their third album, Delicious.

Jakalope will be joined on Oct. 26 by The Birthday Massacre and Johnny Hollow. The Suicide Girls will host the event. Rock N Roll Church will be held the last Sunday of every month, and is based on an event of the same name that was held every Sunday at New York City's The Limelight before its owner, Peter Gatien, moved to Toronto and opened Circa.

You can also see Jakalope outside the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday, while The Birthday Massacre will play The Legendary Red Rooster Vintage Cafe in Burlington, Ont. on Halloween.
